Dr. Jane Bishop
As a family physician, clinic owner, and healthcare leader, I am standing for election to serve as your next President of Doctors of BC. My vision is clear: to lead meaningful change while keeping Doctors of BC physician-strong and physician-centred.
We are smarter together.
-
Diverse Skillset
As a family physician with expertise in anesthesia, obstetrics, and emergency care, I’ve gained a broad perspective on the diverse challenges we face as healthcare providers. Owning my own clinic has given me firsthand experience in navigating both clinical and administrative demands. This wide-ranging background equips me to understand and address the needs of physicians across all specialties and settings.
-
United Network
Our unique relationship with the government shows that together, we can drive real change. But there’s more to do. We must keep the pressure on to address emergency department issues, specialist wait times, and improve our system to meet global standards.
By uniting as physicians, we can achieve these goals. My vision is to lead Doctors of BC toward meaningful change, ensuring we stay physician-strong and focused on delivering the best care for all.
-
Leadership Experience
I’ve dedicated my career to service, serving on the Rural Coordination Centre of BC’s CORE, the Shared Care Committee, and as Vice-Chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Rural Issues. I’ve also been president of the Sunshine Coast Medical Society, first Board Chair of our Local Division of Family Practice, and the GP4Me Lead. Additionally, I introduced simulation technology at Sechelt Hospital and led the Rural Surgical and Obstetrical Network, with my experience now extending to my role as an assessor for the College of Physicians and Surgeons.
My Vision
-
Build a united, MD-centered network that fosters collaboration and celebrates diversity across the province.
-
Continue working with the Ministry and health authorities to drive ongoing system improvements, while safeguarding institutions like RCCbc and Pathways.
-
Avoid piecemeal solutions by integrating various healthcare improvement initiatives into a cohesive system design for smarter, more efficient work.
-
Lead with deep listening and collaborative leadership to ensure physicians can provide optimal care, regardless of location.
President-Elect for Doctors of B.C.
Your vote for me is a vote for a leader with a diverse skillset who will unite and strengthen our medical community, ensuring that every physician’s voice is heard. Together, we can celebrate our differences, improve healthcare access across BC, and find smarter, resourceful solutions to the challenges we face. With my committee and board experience, I’ll advocate for meaningful change and work to create a more inclusive, effective healthcare system for both physicians and the patients we serve.
